For years, Google Search Console had one hard rule: no verified website, no data. That rule just changed. Google has rolled out Platform Properties, a new Search Console property type built specifically for creators and brands who live on social and video platforms rather than — or in addition to — their own domain.
If you run an Instagram page, a YouTube channel, a TikTok account, or an X profile, you can now see exactly how that content performs inside Google Search and Discover. No website required.
Platform Properties are a new way to verify ownership of a social or video account directly inside Search Console, the same way you’d verify a website today. Once verified, you get access to reporting that was previously locked to site owners only.
Four platforms are supported at launch:
This matters because audiences don’t move in a straight line from search to website anymore — they jump between formats. A Reel, a Short, or a post can answer a search query just as well as a landing page can, even though it was never built to rank. Google is essentially acknowledging that platform-native content is now part of the search footprint.
Once a Platform Property is verified, three reports become available:
In short, you finally get a real answer to a question that used to be a guess: is Google actually sending people to my Instagram or YouTube content, and which posts is it favoring?
Google has confirmed the rollout is gradual, so if the option isn’t visible in your account yet, it should appear over the coming weeks.
This update lands at an interesting moment. Over the past year, Search Console has quietly added social channel tracking, weekly and monthly performance views, an AI-powered configuration assistant, and reporting for how content performs inside Google’s AI-generated search experiences. Platform Properties is the next logical step in that pattern: Google is no longer treating “search performance” as something that only happens on websites. For businesses that lean heavily on social content — restaurants sharing Reels, hotels posting property tours, service brands publishing explainer videos — this closes a real visibility gap. You can now find out whether a specific post is being discovered through a Google search rather than only through in-app reach and engagement numbers, which is the kind of insight we build into social media management for our clients at Digital Fortuners.
That said, this isn’t an invitation to over-optimize every caption for keywords. Content that performs well on Search still needs to be genuinely useful and native to the platform it lives on — treating every post like a landing page is the fastest way to lose the audience it was written for in the first place.
